If your wire has any writing or codes on it then email those to us first, occasionally we can match a wire from the codes, particularly if it is a Marks and Spencers bra!
If you wish to replace a lost or broken wire, it is best that you send in the broken wire or a tracing (draw all the way around), of the wire. You will be unlikley to get a perfect match, so you will normally have to replace both wires, hence if you have lost a wire, remove the other one and trace that.
Please do not email pictures, they will be re-sized by the machines so will not provide an accurate diagram.
Please read below, as to why we do not suggest you try to match the wire yourself!
All manufacturers of bras produce their own wire diagrams, and the difference in sizing from one make to another can be quite substantial.
If there are any codes or numbers on the wire then it may be possible for us to identify the wire from that information, in which case we will email you with the style and size to buy
In any case, it is always best to check with us before making a purchase if you are not sure, as there are so many styles and sizes to choose from, the liklihood, of you getting it right without the correct information is slim!
To replace the wire, you first need to remove the broken wire. Using a seam ripper, remove the zigzag stitching on the end of the bra wire casing under the arm area. Push the wire out carefully, the broken edge of the wire may be sharp so go slowly as it may push through elsewhere and tear the casing.
Replace with the new wire.
If you hold the wire in front of you, there will always be one arm longer than the other. The shortest arms go to the centre (front) of the bra, so this end is pushed into the casing first.
Stitch over the end to keep the bra wire from coming out again. You can use the button hole (bartack) stitch on your machine, but make sure the wire is out of the way. If the needle hits the wire, it will break.
Alternatively hand sew, the end securely. If the wire has pushed a hole in the casing, then after inserting the wire and using the end of a thick needle push a small piece of felt into the hole, spreading the felt out below the hole. Then darn the hole, catching the felt, so it is secure.
