Frequently Asked Questions

This page lists our most frequently asked questions.
If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just ask — we’ll add it here for everyone!

Do you add VAT?

No VAT is added.

What payment options do you offer?

We accept credit and debit cards via WorldPay (a secure third-party service — we do not see or store your card details).
Registered customers spending over £15 may also choose PayPal at checkout.

What is the shipping cost?

Shipping costs vary depending on weight, value, and delivery location.
Charges include administration, postage, and packing.
You can view your postage options and costs during checkout.
A minimum shipping charge applies.

Do you offer guaranteed delivery?

We do not guarantee same-day dispatch, although most orders placed before 12 noon (Monday–Friday, excluding Bank Holidays) are sent the same day.

If you select Royal Mail Special Delivery, it will arrive the next working day after dispatch.
Royal Mail does not guarantee delivery times for Tracked 24 or 48 services.
For more information, see Royal Mail’s terms:
Royal Mail Specific Terms for Tracked 24 and 48

Do you offer free shipping?

Special offers on postage are occasionally available and will be shown on the website banner or checkout page.

Do you have a physical shop?

No. We are an online-only business.
All orders must be placed through our website and will be posted to your address.
We do not accept telephone or postal orders.

Do you offer worldwide shipping?

No. We only ship to mainland Great Britain.
Due to the additional customs paperwork now required, we do not send directly to Northern Ireland or Ireland.

Packages to Northern Ireland are often returned by customs without explanation, so we no longer offer this service.

Customers in Ireland may find AddressPal (by An Post) useful, as it provides a UK delivery address and forwards packages on:
https://addresspal.anpost.ie/
Please note: we do not personally recommend or endorse this service — please research to ensure it suits your needs.

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes. Automatic discounts apply as you add more to your basket.
Many items now have drop-down options for pre-packed quantities at reduced prices.

Do you wholesale?

We are not wholesalers, but many of our products are priced as competitively as wholesale suppliers.
Because we buy large quantities of clearance and deadstock, we can often offer excellent prices which we pass directly on to our customers.

When will my order be dispatched?

Royal Mail collects our post around 1pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).
We aim to have all orders received before that time packed and ready for the next collection.

Can I add to my order, or combine multiple orders to save postage?

No. Please ensure your order is complete before payment.
We cannot add to or combine orders once they are placed, as doing so can create security and chargeback issues with PayPal and card processors.

Can I swap the strap, fastener, or other item in a kit for a different size?

No. Kits are pre-packed as shown.
Please check the contents before purchase and select a kit that best suits your needs, or order the individual items separately.

What is Your Carbon Footprint? (and Why It’s Net-Negative!)

Sewing Chest operates with a net-negative carbon footprint.
Almost everything we sell is deadstock or factory clearance, meaning we give quality materials a second life instead of letting them go to waste.
We reuse packaging wherever possible — even our mailing envelopes are rescued from clearance — and our workspace is powered by 100% renewable electricity.

We don’t “offset” our emissions through carbon credits or tree-planting schemes.
We believe in reducing impact at the source, not compensating for it later.
By saving materials that would otherwise be discarded, we prevent far more carbon emissions than we produce — genuine sustainability, not greenwash.

What about REACH Compliance?

Sewing Chest Limited is a UK-based retailer supplying finished textile components sourced from UK and EU suppliers.
We do not manufacture or chemically process any materials.
All goods are supplied in compliance with UK REACH regulations, as verified by our upstream suppliers.
