Interestingly this had a label on, stating it was made in Austria, and each carded bundle is 10yds long.  Apparently Austria (and most European countries), actually used the metric system around 1865 onwards. (it was actually the law!), being from the UK, this really surprised me! 

question: - is this lace really really old, or was the lace produced in yards for the UK market?

answer: I have no idea!

It is definitely pretty old! It also has a light odour that says "I've been stored in the attic for 50 years"!!!
